Liliana Segovia de Leon
Lily just turned 6 years old and her upbringing has been full of love as she’s brought light to the life of her parents Ivonne and Milton Segovia and an immaculate joy to her siblings Lucy (10) and Lucas (7).
Yet her birthday is different as we also celebrate her braveness, resilience and faith; such facets arrived too early in her life as in May 2018 she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia a rare type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow that affects white blood cells.
She’s battled this disease for 14 months so bravely conquering fears no kid should conquer at her tender age and subduing challenges so courageously often making us forget she’s a child.
Her path is not simple, it involves chemo therapies, weekly blood samples checks, transfusions, endless days at hospitals and time away from what a kid should be enjoying, still at the end of every day all of us feel that one step forward was made.
Unfortunately in July '19 Lily had a relapse in her central nervous system and had to undergo an intense chemo therapies in a short period of time, also her program of therapies had to be redrawn, extended and reinforced, we will not lie, we were scared, even more than when she was diagnosed as all the advance done felt like a house of cards falling apart.
One morning after this debacle Lily woke up and smiled upon us once more, she showed us the resilience of a young child that firmly believes that her conviction will reward her with the future she deserves and that we, her family will always be by her side.
Hope takes many forms, an open road, an unturned page, words, deeds of others and her smile, definetly her smile.
This page will share her journey and another way to receive support to Lily’s cause.
Sincerely and with our utmost gratitude
Segovia de Leon Family.
